Selaginella intermedia a terrestrial and epiphytic plant native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia. Often found in the damp understories of rainforests, this species thrives in environments with high humidity and low to moderate light. Its natural habitats include forest floors and rocky outcrops where it benefits from the moisture and shade provided by the dense canopy overhead.
 
Description: This distinctive Selaginella species forms a lush, mat-like layer of fine, delicate foliage. Its small, scale-like leaves are arranged closely along trailing stems, creating a dense, carpeted effect in suitable, humid conditions. The foliage is typically brown or bright green, adding a soft texture and vibrant colour to shaded areas. 
 
Due to its adaptability to humid, low-light conditions, Selaginella intermedia is ideal for indoor environments and closed terrarium settings. Its trailing growth and ability to spread make it an excellent choice for adding greenery to ground-level displays or low-light plant collections.
 
Care Instructions: 
For optimal growth, Selaginella intermedia should be kept in a low light environment, avoiding bright sunlight which can damage its delicate foliage. Plant in a well-draining, moisture-retentive substrate, ideally with organic matter or sphagnum moss, to support its preference for consistently moist conditions. Water regularly to keep the substrate damp, but avoid waterlogging, as the plant's fine roots are prone to rot if overly saturated.
 
Maintain a warm, humid environment with daytime temperatures between 18-24°C and nighttime temperatures between 14-28 degrees Celsius. High humidity (above 60%) is essential for healthy growth, so regular misting or a humidifier nearby is beneficial. Use terrariums or clear plastic tubs in drier indoor spaces. Fertilize sparingly with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer infrequently.
