Habitat and Location:

Impatiens repens is a creeping terrestrial, lithophyte or epiphyte and is found in a variety of habitats in Sri Lanka.

Description and Key Features:

Impatiens repens is noted for being suitable for terrariums due to its very small creeping nature. The plant features dark green leaves and red rhizomes. This species produces striking yellow flowers.

This species is a visually appealing addition to any greenhouse and paludarium/terrarium collection, though it will grow indoors only if given the right cultural conditions. Its creeping habit and bright yellow flowers make it an attractive choice for hanging baskets, and mounted displays.

Care Instructions:

For optimal growth, Impatiens repens should be placed in shade or moderate light. While it can tolerate brighter light conditions, it thrives best with low filtered sunlight. Ensure the plant is mounted or in a well-draining media, such as an epiphytic potting mix with added moss and perlite to maintain adequate moisture without waterlogging. Water the plant regularly and make sure that they do not dry out.

Maintain an intermediate environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 21-28 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 14-19 degrees Celsius. Impatiens repens prefers high humidity, so regular misting, a hydrofogger or placing the plant near a humidity tray can help maintain the desired moisture levels. This plant benefits from a consistent environment and does not tolerate drafts or sudden temperature changes.
