Habitat and Location:
Gloxinella lindeniana is a rhizomatous Gesneriad native to the cloud forests of Colombia. This species thrives in the cool, shaded understories of rainforests, where it benefits from high humidity and indirect light. It typically grows as an understory plant on the forest floor, adapting well to moist, humid environments.
Description:
Gloxinella lindeniana is prized for its beautiful, velvety green leaves, which are adorned with intricate silver veins. The foliage forms a compact rosette. During its flowering period, it produces delicate, tubular, pale pink or lavender blooms. Plants remain small never getting much higher than 10 cm.
This species is an excellent choice for terrariums, greenhouses, or as an indoor plant in humid environments. It will go dormant after flowering and will regrow.
Care Instructions:
For optimal growth, Gloxinella lindeniana should be placed in shaded, indirect light. It prefers a well-draining, organic-rich soil media of soil, orchid bark, charcoal and perlite to ensure adequate moisture retention without waterlogging. Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
This plant thrives in intermediate to cool temperatures, with daytime temperatures ranging from 18-26 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 9-15 degrees Celsius. High humidity is essential for this species, so mist frequently during warm weather or place the plant on a humidity tray to maintain moisture levels. In greenhouses place near a hydrofogger. Fertilize with a dilute balanced feed every watering.
