Habitat and Location:

 

Ficus pumila, is a species of fig tree and miniature. This tropical perennial plant is an epiphyte or lithophyte and inhabits the rainforests of south China, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. This species thrives creeping over rocks, cliffs, even concrete and walls. As an epiphyte, plants can cover entire areas like a mat.

 

Key Features:

 

Ficus pumila is initially a small species and is often found in terrariums. Plants will grow creep metres and eventually develop woody stems and robust branches cm. The leaves are small sometimes with venation. Small fruits are borne along the stem.

 

This species is a visually stunning addition to any greenhouse or conservatory collection and can also be grown in terrarium if pruned and kept from growing into its second phase.

 

Care Instructions:

 

For optimal growth, Ficus pumila needs to be placed in bright light. While it can tolerate moderate light conditions, it thrives best with a well-lit environment. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining soil mix, such as a combination of soil, perlite to maintain adequate moisture without waterlogging. Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy, make sure this plant does not dry out completely.

 

Maintain a warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 17-30 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 14-22 degrees Celsius. Ficus pumila prefers high humidity, so regular misting or placing the plant near a humidity tray can help maintain the desired moisture levels. This plant needs good air circulation and should be kept away from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
