Dracula simia is from Ecuador. In the wild this species inhabits mountain cloud forest at elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 metres. Inflorescence’s measure 10cm, are arching to pendent and bear successively opening flowers. Plants bloom at any time of the year and when conditions are suitable.
This is a flowering sized plant. Grow Dracula simia in a net pot or basket and use loosely packed sphagnum moss as a media. Make sure plants get sufficient air movement particularly when gown in humidity above 80%; always ensure that humidity is high and give plants moderate to deep shade. Plants need to be grown wet; I grow my Dracula species sitting in water and I remove this species from water once spikes are seen. This avoids the spikes growing downwards into the water. This species grows well in an intermediate to cool greenhouse or indoors in suitable conditions, including, a difference between day and night temperature, air movement and humidity.
