Habitat:
Dendrobium crenatifolium is a lithophytic (sometimes epiphytic?) orchid species endemic to New Guinea, specifically found in the Papua (Jaya Wijaya Regency) region. It thrives at elevations between 2,800 and 3,450 meters, growing on mossy rocks in high-altitude environments. Within its natural habitat, it is considered locally common.
 
Description:
Dendrobium crenatifolium produces erect stems that measure 20–30 cm in length and 2–3.3 mm in width. The leaves are an erect, curved leaf a subovate-lanceolate shape. They measure 2.5–4.5 cm long and 0.83–1.1 cm wide. The inflorescences arise from the upper nodes of the stem and are approximately 2.2 cm long, typically bearing around six flowers. The flowers are approximately 2.9 cm long. The lip is clawed and spathulate, with a claw about 1.8 cm long when flattened, partially adnate to the column-foot. The blade of the lip measures 1.25 by 1.1 cm and features a transverse thickening on the claw, The flowers exhibit a striking color combination: violet to violet-purple sepals and petals, with an orange lip edged in violet.
 
Cultivation:
Dendrobium crenatifolium is a cool-growing terrestrial orchid that requires high humidity, ample light, and a well-ventilated environment. It is a difficult plant to grow. It thrives in conditions that replicate its native high-altitude habitat, including a cool climate and a mossy or well-draining growing medium. Due to its natural occurrence at high elevations, it may be challenging to cultivate successfully in warmer environments without specialized environments. Provide moderate light for growth and flowers, spray lightly daily to mimic natural moisture conditions increasing in frequency during warmer weather, and maintain a cool  greenhouse/terrarium with night temperatures of 6-12 degrees and daytime temperatures of 16-25 degrees. Feed plants weakly all year.
