Habitat and Location:
Crassula capitella, commonly known as the Campfire Plant or Red Pagoda, is a succulent species native to South Africa and Namibia. It typically grows in rocky outcrops, sandy soils, and arid regions, thriving in areas with full sun exposure and well-draining conditions.
Description and Key Features:
Crassula capitella is recognized for its vibrant, colourful foliage that changes hues with the seasons. The leaves are arranged in a stacked, rosette pattern, turning reddish especially under full sun and during cooler temperatures. This species can produce small, star-shaped white flowers in clusters, typically blooming in summer, which add a subtle but charming detail to its overall appearance.
Care Instructions:
For optimal growth, Crassula capitella should be placed in full sun to partial shade. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, bright light helps maintain its vibrant colours. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend, to prevent waterlogging. Water the plant sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and reduce the frequency during the winter months when the plant is less active.
Maintain a warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 18-34 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 5-15 degrees Celsius. Crassula capitella prefers low to moderate humidity, making it suitable for indoor cultivation in bright, well-ventilated areas. The plant can be grown outdoors in suitable climates but should be protected from frost and excessive rain.
