Coelogyne velutina is a species from Peninsula Malaysia and Thailand. In the wild this plant is an epiphyte or lithophyte inhabiting lower montane forests at elevations between 900 - 1,900 metres. Inflorescences measure 30-50 cm, are pendent and bear up to 15-25 flowers that each measure 6.5 cm across.
This plant is flowering size and is growing in a pot with medium bark. Grow Coelogyne velutina in a pot with a mixture of fine and medium bark with moss and perlite added. Plants require moderate light, never grow them in direct sunlight. The plant does not like to dry out. Plants do not like to dry out and need excellent quality water all year. Grow in an intermediate greenhouse and give your plant night-time temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees and daytime temperatures of 25 to 28 degrees. Plants grow well indoors and will flower if given sufficient light and a difference between day and night temperature.
