Coelogyne rigida is a species from Sulawesi, Maluku, Java, Borneo, and Sumatra. In the wild this species grows in a scrambling manner as an epiphyte and sometimes terrestrial in montane and hill forest at elevations between 1,000 and 1,500 metres. Inflorescences bear several successively opening flowers that each measure 2 cm across. Plants can be in flower for a long time and even constantly in the right conditions.

This plant is flowering size and is growing in a pot. Grow Coelogyne rigida in a pot with fine bark mixed with moss or on a mount. Grow plants in moderate light, and never in direct or bright sunlight. Plants do not like to dry out and need excellent quality water all year. Plants grow well in an intermediate greenhouse and appreciate night-time temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees and daytime temperatures of 26 to 30 degrees. Given the plants scrambling habit, it is not recommended for growing indoors.
