Habitat and ecology

Coelogyne multiflora is a species from Sumatra and Java. In the wild this species is a terrestrial, or epiphyte and grows in mountain forests at elevations around 1,200.Plants are reported to be encountered growing on dead trees.

Description

Leaves measure 40-60 cm. Inflorescences are arching or erect, measure 30 cm and bear many simultaneous opening flowers that each measure 2 cm across.

Cultivation

Grow Coelogyne multiflora in a pot with a mixed media of fine bark, charcoal, moss and perlite. Grow plants in moderate light, and never in direct or bright sunlight during the summer. Plants do not like to dry out and need excellent quality water all year. Plants grow well in an intermediate greenhouse and appreciate night-time temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees and daytime temperatures of 26 to 30 degrees. Plants grow well indoors and will flower if given enough light and a difference between day and night temperature.

After purchasing a 40 hour warming pad I was shocked to receive an email stating it would be insitu 5 to 6 days. I did receive the plant earlier but all the leaves were discoloured. I sent photos and told it was a fungal disease and I could return. I asked for instructions and I am still waiting!
