Habitat and ecology

Coelogyne eberhardtii is a species from Laos and Vietnam. In the wild this species is a epiphyte and grows in mountain forests at elevations between 1,000 and 1,500. Plants are rare in cultivation being found in just a few collections globally.

Description

A medium sized Coelogyne, the pseudobulbs are an ovoid-oblong shape. The leaves measure 20-30 cm and are an oblong-lanceolate shape. Inflorescences are arching or erect, measure 10-30 cm and bear several successively opening flowers that each measure 7 cm across.

Cultivation

Grow Coelogyne eberhardtii on a mount with moss or in a pot with a mixed media of fine and medium bark, charcoal, moss and perlite. Grow plants in moderate light, and never in direct or bright sunlight during the summer. Plants do not like to dry out and need excellent quality water all year. Plants grow well in an intermediate greenhouse and appreciate night-time temperatures of 14 to 22 degrees and daytime temperatures of 26 to 32 degrees. Plants grow well indoors and will flower if given enough light and a difference between day and night temperature.
