Coelogyne cumingii is from Borneo, Sumatra, Malaysia, and Thailand. In the wild this species inhabits a variety of forests as an epiphyte at elevations below 2,100 metres. Inflorescences bear up to six flowers that measure 5 cm across. Plants bloom during the spring and autumn months and the flowers are beautifully scented and particularly during warm and sunny weather.
Grow Coelogyne cumingii on a mount, or in a pot or basket with a medium and fine bark mix with moss on top. Grow plants in moderate to bright light, and never in direct sunlight. Plants do not like to dry out and need excellent quality water. Plants grow well in an intermediate to cool greenhouse and appreciate night-time temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees and daytime temperatures of 24 to 28 degrees. Plants grow well indoors and will flower if given sufficient light and a difference between day and night temperature.
