Habitat and Location:

Codonanthopsis crassifolia is a charming epiphytic plant native to the tropical rainforests of central and south America. This species typically inhabits the moist, shaded understories of these forests, thriving in the warm, humid environment provided by the dense canopy. It often grows on tree trunks and branches, taking advantage of the high humidity, moisture and filtered light.

Description and Key Features:

Codonanthopsis crassifolia is noted for its small, succulent-like leaves and delicate flowers. The plant features trailing stems adorned with thick, fleshy, oval leaves that are dark green and glossy. The flowers are small, tubular, and white, sometimes with a hint of pink, adding a subtle touch of colour and very similar to Codonanthe gracilis. These flowers are often followed by small, berry-like fruits.

This species is a visually appealing addition to any plant collection, whether in a greenhouse, terrarium, or as a houseplant (when given optimal conditions). Its trailing habit and attractive foliage make it a standout choice for hanging baskets, mounted displays, or as a part of a mixed plant arrangement.

Care Instructions:

For optimal growth, Codonanthopsis crassifolia should be placed in bright, moderate light. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, it thrives best with moderate amounts of, filtered sunlight. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining soil mix, such as an orchid mix or a peat-based potting mix or that its mounted-on cork, to maintain adequate moisture without waterlogging. Water the plant regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, and reduce the frequency during the cooler months when the plant's growth slows. Spray mounted plants daily.

Maintain an intermediate to warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 18-24 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 15-20 degrees Celsius. Codonanthopsis crassifolia prefers high humidity, so regular misting or placing the plant on a humidity tray can help maintain the desired moisture levels. Avoid placing the plant in drafts or sudden temperature changes, as it is sensitive to such conditions.
