Habitat and Location:

Chamaeranthemum venosum, rare in cultivation and even more rare in the wild, this species is native to the tropical rainforests floor in south Brazil. Typically found growing amongst other small plants where lights reaches the forest floor.

Description and Key Features:

Chamaeranthemum venosum is known for its striking foliage, characterized by broad, dark green leaves with bold, contrasting crystalline silver veins. The leaves have a textured, slightly velvety surface, adding to their visual appeal. When the plant blooms, it produces small, tubular flowers, white or mostly pale purple..

This low-growing, compact plant is an excellent choice for terrariums, indoor plant displays, or shaded outdoor gardens during the summer months in the UK (watch the slugs!).

Care Instructions:

Chamaeranthemum venosum thrives in moderate shade and can tolerate lower light conditions typically found on the forest floor. It prefers a well-draining, rich organic potting mix, and the soil should be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. Misting the plant regularly helps maintain the high humidity levels it prefers, especially when grown indoors. However, as always care must be given when misting as water should not stay on the leaves for long when there is a lack of air movement.

Maintain an intermediate to warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 18-29 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius. Chamaeranthemum venosum benefits from high humidity, so place the plant near a humidity tray or hydrofogger. Fertilize every water with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer to promote healthy growth and flowering.
