Habitat and Location:
Bulbophyllum pleurocrepis, is an epiphytic orchid from the Philippines, where it grows in the warm, humid understory of tropical and subtropical forests. This species thrives in shaded to partially sunny environments, found in forests with consistent moisture and high humidity. This is likely to be the first time this species has ever been offered for sale on the internet.
Description:
Bulbophyllum pleurocrepis is a spreading species with pseudobulbs spaced 5-10 cm apart. The pseudobulbs are an oval shape producing leaves measuring 12-16 cm long. The flowes are solitary on the inflorescence. Similar to Bulbophyllum lobbii and Bulbophyllum facetum.
Care Instructions:
To ensure healthy growth, place Bulbophyllum pleurocrepis in moderately bright, indirect light, although it will grow well in partial shade. Use a well-draining potting mix and water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months when the plant’s growth slows.
Maintain daytime temperatures between 25-30°C and nighttime temperatures no lower than 15°C. This species thrives in high humidity, so regular misting or placement near a humidifier is recommended. Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the active growing season to promote continuous blooming and healthy foliage.
