Habitat:

Bulbophyllum ecornutum is a species from Thailand, Peninsula Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Bali, and Sumatra. This species is an epiphyte and is found in humid shrubby forest at elevations between 400-1,300 metres elevation.

Description:

Inflorescences measure 3-7cm long and produce a single flower, the labellum moves backwards, forwards, and sideways. This species flowers in the autumn or winter and smells like grapes.

This species can be grown in a greenhouse or indoors although if grown indoors it may be reluctant to flower due to the lack light.

Care Instructions:

For optimal growth, Bulbophyllum ecornutum should be placed in bright, indirect light to moderate shade. While it can tolerate more shade, it thrives best with ample, filtered sunlight. Acclimatise plants gradually to brighter light levels. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining soil mix, such as water retentive potting mix for epiphytes, to maintain adequate moisture without waterlogging.

Maintain an intermediate to warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 17-32 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 14-20 degrees Celsius. Bulbophyllum ecornutum needs consistent watering and must never dry out. Avoid placing the plant in drafts or sudden temperature changes, as it is sensitive to such conditions.
