Biophytum sensitivum is from Southeast Asia. This species grows in rainforest at lower elevations. Plants measure up to 30cm. The leaves fold inwards when touched much the same as the Mimosa species. Inflorescences are short and bear many flowers that vary in colour. Plants are annual so will die after flowering once seed pods develop.
This plant is flowering size and is growing in a pot. Grow Biophytum sensitivum in a pot with a soil and fine bark media. Grow this species in shade and give it a lot of water continually. Although plants should not dry out completely and certainly not dehydrate. This plant grows well in an intermediate to warm greenhouse and appreciates night-time temperatures of 13-22 degrees and daytime temperatures of 24 to 32 degrees. This species likes a slight difference between day and night temperature and a short winter rest. Plants can be grown indoors in suitable conditions and are a favourite for terrarium growers.
