Habitat and Location:

Appendicula buxifolia, an epiphytic species from Borneo, the Philippines, Sumatra and encountered in the wetter parts in the west Java. Found lower down in the canopy in shade. Found at elevations between sea level and 1,400 metres.

Description and Key Features:

Appendicula buxifolia is an unusual species with dense branching stems. The stems measure 40 cm long. Leaves measure 1.3-2.0 cm long and 5 mm wide. Inflorescences are shorter than the leaves and produce 3-7 greenish yellow flowers. This species is perfect for a low light slightly larger terrarium.

Care Instructions:

Grow Appendicula buxifolia on a mount, ensure sufficient air movement, especially in humidity above 50%. Stems can rot with lower air movement, particularly new growths when sprayed water stays in the leaf axils. Provide low light for growth and flowers, spray lightly daily to mimic natural moisture conditions increasing in frequency during warmer weather and maintain an intermediate or warm greenhouse/terrarium with night temperatures of 17-23 degrees and daytime temperatures of 24-31 degrees. Feed plants all year.
