Habitat and Location:

Agapetes serpens, an epiphytic species found in Nepal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan and China in seasonal forest.

 

Description and Key Features:

Agapetes serpens is a collectable species with its red and cream coloured flowers and edible fruits. Plants can attain 1.5 tall but are usually much less. The branches can extens 2 metres outwards The caudex, which is a swollen base can grow moderately large. Clusters of several unscented flowers are produced randomly along the stem.

 

Care Instructions:

Grow Agapetes serpens on a mount or in a pot with a mixed media of perlite, fine orchid bark and moss. Always ensure sufficient air movement, especially in humidity above 50%. Provide bright light for growth and flowers, water plants consistently and during hotter weather, spray lightly daily to mimic natural moisture conditions. Maintain an intermediate or cool greenhouse/terrarium with night temperatures of 8-17 degrees and daytime temperatures of 18-27 degrees. Feed plants all year.
