Habitat and Location:

Agapetes moorei, a terrestrial species found in Myanmar in seasonal forest, not much else is recorded about its ecology. Plants could possibly be epiphytic as well.

Description and Key Features:

Agapetes moorei is an unusual species with long extending branches, a caudex (lignotuber) and bright orange flowers produced from the stem itself. The caudex, which is a swollen base can grow quite large. Branches can reach two metres long. The clusters of flowers are produced randomly along the stem and bear 2-6 unscented flowers. This plant is meticulously grown in a put with a mossy surface, pots can be hung. Thriving in varying light conditions, its shape, size, or colour is not significantly affected although the leaves will yellow if the light levels are too high. Plants deteriorate quickly when dehydrated and they often don’t recover.

Care Instructions:

Grow Agapetes moorei in a pot, ensure sufficient air movement, especially in humidity above 50%. Use a potting media of small bark with a fine bark, charcoal and perlite mix. Provide moderate light for growth and flowers, spray lightly daily to mimic natural moisture conditions increasing in frequency during warmer weather and maintain an intermediate or warm greenhouse/terrarium with night temperatures of 14-21 degrees and daytime temperatures of 23-31 degrees. Feed plants all year.
