Habitat and Location:

 

Adelonema pallidinervium, is a species that is new to cultivation and was described in 2016. This tropical perennial plant native to the rainforests of Ecuador. This terrestrial species thrives along the banks of rivers and on the shaded forest floor.

 

Key Features:

 

Adelonema pallidinervium is a new to cultivation Aroid that creates a jungle feel. Plants can grow to 40 cm high and clump. The leaves are emerald green with a pale stripe along the central nerve. The flower is small and inconspicuous. The original description called this species Adelonema palidinervia, it is possible that Kew changed the spelling in error.

 

This species is a visually stunning addition to any greenhouse or conservatory collection and can also be grown indoors if given the right cultural conditions. Plants could be kept in a XL terrarium but will need constant pruning.

 

Care Instructions:

 

For optimal growth, Adelonema pallidinervium should be placed in shade. While it can tolerate moderate light conditions, it thrives best with a dark shaded environment. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining soil mix, such as a combination of soil, perlite, and orchid bark to maintain adequate moisture without waterlogging. Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy, make sure this plant does not dry out.

 

Maintain a warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 22-30 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 15-22 degrees Celsius. Adelonema pallidinervium prefers high humidity, so regular misting or placing the plant near a humidity tray can help maintain the desired moisture levels. This plant needs good air circulation and should be kept away from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
