Habitat and Location:

Achimenes admirabilis is a charming rhizomatous perennial plant native to the seasonal dry cloud forests of Central America, particularly found in Mexico. This species typically inhabits the moist, shaded understories of these forests, thriving in the cool, humid environment provided by the dense canopy.

Description and Key Features:

Achimenes admirabilis is noted for its beautiful and vibrant flowers that bloom in a range of colours, including shades of orange and red. The flowers have a long tubular calyx, and are striking creating a stunning display against the backdrop of its bicolour green, fuzzy leaves. The leaves are ovate with serrated edges, adding to the plant's ornamental appeal. This species is primarily grown for its striking flowers and attractive foliage.

This species is a visually appealing addition to any plant collection, whether in a greenhouse, medium to large terrarium, or as a houseplant. Its vibrant blooms and lush foliage make it a standout choice for various indoor settings.

Care Instructions:

For optimal growth, Achimenes admirabilis should be placed in moderate light. While it can tolerate some shade, it thrives best with ample, filtered sunlight. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining soil mix, such as a tropical terrestrial potting mix, to maintain adequate moisture without waterlogging. Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy, and reduce the frequency during the plant's dormant period in the cooler months.

Maintain an intermediate to warm environment with daytime temperatures ranging from 18-24 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 15-20 degrees Celsius. Achimenes admirabilis prefers high humidity between 55-75%, so regular misting or placing the plant on a humidity tray can help maintain the desired moisture levels. Avoid placing the plant in drafts or sudden temperature changes, as it is sensitive to such conditions.
