Description

Dracula lotax is found in Ecuador and Peru. In the wild this species inhabits tall and wet montane forest between 800 - 1,600 metres. Inflorescences bear solitary flowers that measure 8cm from tail to tail. Plants bloom in the spring.

This is a flowering sized plant. Grow Dracula lotax in a net pot or basket and use loosely packed sphagnum moss as a media. Make sure plants get sufficient air movement particularly when grown in humidity above 80%; always ensure that humidity is high and give plants moderate to deep shade. Plants need to be grown wet; I grow my Dracula species sitting in water and I remove this particular species from water once spikes are seen. This avoids the spikes growing downwards into the water. This species grows well in an intermediate to warm greenhouse or indoors in suitable conditions, including, a difference between day and night temperature, air movement and humidity.
