Description

Scaphosepalum ophidion is from Columbia and Ecuador. This species inhabits cloud forests at elevations between 1,400 and 2,500 metres. Inflorescences measure 12cm and bear successively opening flowers that each measure 1cm across. Plants bloom at any time of the year and when conditions are suitable.

This is a flowering sized plant. Grow Scaphosepalum ophidion in a pot and use loosely packed sphagnum moss as a media. Make sure plants get sufficient air movement particularly when grown in humidity above 80%; always ensure that humidity is high and give plants moderate to deep shade. Plants need to be grown wet; I grow my Scaphosepalum species sitting in a small amount of water or on wet capillary matting. This species grows well in an intermediate to cool greenhouse or indoors in suitable conditions, including, a difference between day and night temperature, air movement and humidity.
