Description

Epidendrum × elongatum is a species from South America and some Caribbean islands. In the wild this species is a terrestrial and lithophyte at elevations up to 1,000 metres. Inflorescences measure 40-60cm, bear large purple or lilac flowers which measure 1.5-2cm across. Plants bloom in the spring.

This is a flowering size plant in a pot. Grow Epidendrum × elongatum in a pot in bright light, never in direct sunlight and give it a lot of water while it is actively growing. This plant grows well in an intermediate to warm greenhouse and appreciates night time temperatures of 15- 22 degrees and day time temperatures of 26 to 33 degrees. This species likes a difference between day and night temperature. Plants are better suited for a greenhouse but will grow and potentially flower indoors in a sunny location. Some sources cite this species to be a synonym of Epidendrum secundum.
