Description

Dracula astuta is endemic to Costa Rica. In the wild this species inhabits scrubby wet forest at elevations around 1,700 metres. Inflorescences measure 15-20cm and bear 3-5 successively opening flowers that each measure 20cm from tail to tail. Plants bloom at any time of the year.

This is a flowering sized plant. Grow Dracula astuta in a net pot or basket and use loosely packed sphagnum moss as a media. Make sure plants get sufficient air movement particularly when gown in humidity above 80%; always ensure that humidity is sufficiently high and give plants moderate shade. Plants need to be grown wet; I grow my Dracula species sitting in water. This species grows well in an intermediate to cool greenhouse or indoors in suitable conditions, including, a difference between day and night temperature, air movement and sufficient humidity.
