Description

Epidendrum schweinfurthianum is from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. In the wild this species grows along roadsides and on steep verges at elevations between 1,500 and 2,400 metres. Inflorescences measure 10cm and bear many flowers that are 3-4.5cm across. Plants generally bloom during the autumn and winter months and the flowers last for three months.

This plant is flowering size and growing in a pot. Grow Epidendrum schweinfurthianum in a pot with a bark, sphagnum mix, in moderately bright light, and keep it evenly watered during its growing season and reduce the amount of watering slightly in the winter months. This plant grows well in an intermediate to cool greenhouse and appreciates night time temperatures of 10- 15 degrees and day time temperatures of 23 to 27 degrees. This species likes a difference between day and night temperature. Plants are better suited for a greenhouse but will grow and potentially flower indoors in a location with good air movement, moderate shade and a difference between day and night temperature.
