Description

Dracula minax is endemic to Columbia. This species grows in montane cloud forest in the central Cordillera mountain range. Inflorescences measure 15-25cm and bear successively opening flowers that measure 5cm from tail to tail. Plants bloom at any time of the year and when conditions are suitable.

This is a flowering sized plant. Grow Dracula minax in a net pot or basket and use loosely packed sphagnum moss as a media. Make sure plants get sufficient air movement particularly when gown in humidity above 80%; always ensure that humidity is high and give plants moderate to deep shade. Plants need to be grown wet; I grow my Dracula species sitting in water and I remove this particular species from water once spikes are seen. This avoids the spikes growing downwards into the water. This species grows well in an intermediate to cool greenhouse or indoors in suitable conditions, including, a difference between day and night temperature, air movement and humidity.
